Tip for the Week

Hey everyone. It’s Sunday, so it’stime for my tip for the week.

This week, I want to mention not being afraid to be yourself and doing what’s best for you. I know we’ve all heard this many times before, but if we keep hearing it, that means it hasn’t sunk in yet. I chose this topic for the week on experience (as always).

At my job, my hours were pretty crappy. Somedays I’d open, then I’d close, then I might be a mid-shift. That left me with hardly anytime to work out- and we all know how much I love to work out. So, when I was asked to switch departments to an EASIER job, NO customer contact and BETTER hours I was excited to accept. However, I thought that I didn’t want to upset my current boss by having her try and find a replacement for me. Well, that thought lasted about 2 seconds. I then began to think about what I told her when I got hired. I told her my situation and she continued to do what was best for her and her department- as everyone does. So, if it’s ok for everyone else to do it, then it’s ok for me to do so as well.

Needless to say, she was upset, but there’s nothing she can do about it. I made my decision and there’s no changing that.

So, don’t be afraid to speak up for what you want because closed mouths don’t get fed. Everyone is out for #1 as well as you should be.

Have a great week everyone :)

TIP FOR THE WEEK

Happy Sunday everyone! My tip for this week actually comes from something that just happened to me not too long ago.

BE IN CONTROL OF YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES!

Why say that? You have the power to CHOOSE to let people get to you. Now, I have a shoot first, ask later mentality which bothers me. I’ve been focused on not letting little things and little people bother me. However, when it feels like I am making progress, I allow myself to get pulled right back in. I need to control my impulses and I know I’m not the only one who does that reacts hastily.

I’m trying and growing every single day. I got knocked one step backwards today, but that just means I have that much more ground to make up- and I know I will :) Have a good week everyone!

YUM :) Tilapia (a great source of protein and low-fat), peas and brown rice (loaded with more fiber than white rice, and I think it actually tastes like something), make for a great tasting, healthy dinner!

Lean, Mean, Fat-Reducing, Grilling Machine!
Seriously, you HAVE to own one. I cook all my meats on here and they come out tender and great. The secret is not to close the lid and it won’t smash the juices out, but the fat still falls off :)

Perspectives

Sometimes, things happen and it makes me re-think everything. Today, I went to a funeral for a dear friend and family member. Seeing him laying there just made me think about how short our time on earth really. People die everyday, but when it’s someone close to you, you think “omg, this is gonna be me one day.” There’s no ifs ands or buts about it.

So, you think- have I been the best friend, girlfriend, student, employee I can be? Have I done what I wanted to do? Why not? They’re all really simple questions with simple answers. I’m upset with myself because it shouldn’t take the death of someone else to make me sit down and think. We’re all so selfish and walking around like this doesn’t exist, that when you are faced with death, it makes us react. I shed a couple tears and went numb after that.

Now, it’s spending time with those that you love and those who love you. Live everyday to the fullest and never go to bed angry. You never know if you’ll wake up the next morning. Thank whomever you pray to that you are in the spot you’re in for there’s always someone in a worse spot. Live up everyday and make all your dreams happen. Make your life mean something and don’t let things just happen to you- there are plenty of people who would love the chance at life again. Do it right while you have the chance. :0)

To B.E.

Brittany Edwards- BE

In the dictionary, “be” means to exist, be real and actual. It’s like the quote “I think, therefore I am.”

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of self-reflection and I’m realizing that I who I am as a person is just that. Being, existing…I am.

Everyone might not like it at times, and it might rub you the wrong way, but I am and I have the freedom to be me, so that’s who I’m gonna be- B.E

B.E-focused

determined

strong

aggressive

resilient

stubborn

opinionated

outspoken

pushy…

but able to B.E. one of the sweetest people you’ll ever know :)

Talk to you all soon!

TIP: Staying fit with a busy schedule

I’m starting out every week with a tip for everyone. These tips can be about ANYTHING. For this week, my tip is staying fit with a busy schedule.

Throughout my fitness journey, I have found out that the hardest part isn’t going to the gym or even eating what you’re supposed to. So, what is it?

The hardest part is your scheduling and planning. Working six or seven days a week, sometimes twice a day, trust me, it gets REALLY hard to stay on track. Here’s a secret that works for me. PLAN PLAN PLAN! Now, we all know how much I LOVE to plan, but even for those more “spontaneous” types, you have to plan. This is your new lifestyle and you worked hard for that beautiful body, so why lose it to vending machine snacks and quick bites from work?

Make your lunch the night before and place it in tupperware. While you’re at it, pack some snacks in sandwich baggies. It’s portion control because you can only eat what you packed AND a great money saver because you’re not spending $5 a day on fast food.

Think about it, the standard American works five days a week. $5 a day, five days a week and for two weeks per pay period equals FIFTY DOLLARS. What can you do with $50? Well, for starters, you can buy better products at the grocery store. So many people complain about the price of “organic” or “natural” products (which are SO much better for you), but with the extra $50, you can spring for the “organic” yogurt or even a trip to Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.

It’s not easy, and it takes work and a dash of planning, but it’s not impossible to do. With enough repetition, it becomes a habit. Something worth having takes work. But, when you look in the mirror and see a slender body and a fatter wallet, you’ll be happy :) Have a great week!
